Question about real flight... Sorry if this is a noob question, but i wanted to ask any of the real pilots out there..

Many times when travelling on commercial flights, i notice the wing flex throughout the flight. I know this is normal but sometimes it looks like its about to snap off....  How much force would it take for that to actually happen? Am I getting nervous for no reason??

Thanks..

You are getting nervous for no reason.

I don't know how much it would take to actually snap off, but it must be something like 5 or 6 or more Gs.  Wing flex is meant to happen, it helps increase lift and make the planes more efficient.

Here is a test done by Boeing on a 777 wing.

Oh Snap  ;D

Seems really violent  :o

But, that's well beyond what the plane would face in even the most severe natural conditions. As long as the plane is taken care of, your fine  ;)

That's an incredible clip, but I'm not surprised it exceeded expectations.
What a noise when it went- not something you want to hear in flight!!  :o

Definately not!!!  But I think you'd be dead before it reached that point, the plane would have hit the ground or the G's would have gotten you, or maybe decompression from the crumpling of the fuselage would do you in.
