if the boeing 727-200 has a range of 2,400nm, how was it able to go from the usa to the uk?

According to the 727-200 advanced manual, available from Boeing, its range was more like 3200nm. That was the model that flew across the Atlantic

Either that or it made it 5/8ths the way there and glided the rest of the way.   :)
