...due to a lack of grooves, making landing dangerous. Some EasyJet pilots complained that they had experienced difficulties bringing the planes to a stop safely, and there have been 2 incidents of pilots overshooting due to bad weather in the last 2 months. That would be normal if the runway wasnt being resurfaced so parts are very slippery.

I've heard about this, and I don't really blame them for not operating at Bristol when the runway is wet. Health and safety comes first! It also looks like lots of other airlines are following easyJets example.

Looking at other sites you see what they're getting at - two minor icidents last week alone, including one aircraft departing the runway (admittedly in very poor conditions).

If you look at the pictures then it's not really suprising they've had to close the runway.......

My only complaint about Bristols runway is the close proximity of the large drop off the end of runway 27. All of my lessons there I wondered what would happen if a plane overshot at high speed.

Woody, do you know the story behind this picture, apart from it being in Germany?

One of my friends (who lives in Spain, flew over into Bristol) was onboard one of the two aircraft that overshot the runway. Apparently it wasn't that bad though, just ended up a few metres off of the runway and hit a few approach lights

I don't. I had it on the best authority that it was Bristol.
