Yesterday I watched live the landing of Discovery at KSC. The camera showed the final seconds before touchdown from the pilot's point of view, and it was impressive; expecially the incredible angle of attack... the orbiter almost stays in a dive until literally seconds before touchdown, then the pilot flares and suddenly the runway becomes visible and the perspective changes to that of a normal landing. It's amazing at how effectively this giant glider loses speed!

I take it Shuttle missions are of little interest as of today. :D

Well, you didn't really leave the thread open ended enough. I agree with you, but you basically said it all.

Apparently my parents heard the boom as it broke the sound barrier upon entering the atmosphere. I was playing football, didn't hear a thing.
I saw the launch on NASA TV, so I got to hear all the radio comms. Launches are more exciting than landings IMHO

Ah I LOVE Space Shuttle launches! Because I live in Australia on the last mission , STS-115, I got up at 4:30 AM to watch it launch. I even had my Space Shuttle checklist out to go through things the same time the real thing would. :P
