It has just been revealed on the local news that NOTTINGHAM EAST MIDLANDS AIRPORT.... is being rebranded yet again.... guess what it's going to be? ...... EAST MIDLANDS AIRPORT. This is what it was called before the addition of "Nottingham" 3 years ago, which was supposed to make the airport more internationally recogniseable.

For those not in the UK.... East Midlands airport is located in Leicestershire ..... the closest city to the airport is Derby and it is located in a triangle between Nottingham, Derby and Leicester. It is truely in the East Midlands and has absolutely nothing to do with Nottingham apart from serving the city.

Thank god for some sanity at last !!!

I live in New Hampshire and my local airport is Manchester Airport.  Logan airport, servicing Boston MA, is Manchester's cheif competitor, so the airport recently changed its name to Mancester Boston Regional.  Frankly I think the idea is genius.  It's actually easier to fly in the Manchester and drive to Boston than it is to fly in to Logan but nobody does it because they (non locals) don't know Manchester is only 45 minutes from Boston.  Now they'll know.

Anyway, the City of Boston sued to prevent the use of "their" name on the airport but I think the suit was dropped as baseless.  (If they had won I'd have suggested they use the name "New Boston Regional" as there is a very tiny town called New Boston in New Hampshire.  Would've been funny to see this sleepy little town with its own regional airport.  Heck, it doesn't even have a region!)

Somewhat ironic considering they are trying to now sell off the real Nottingham airport for housing... ::)

I know how you feel Andy! What was the point in changing the name in the first place!

Renaming it Nottingham East Midlands Airport was a very stupid when it resides in Leicestershire, yet Derby is the closest city.

And now they have finnally decided to change it back!!!. Pointless! But I have heard it may be called 'East Midlands Airport - Nottingham, Leicester, Derby' or something similar. Which will just be a waste of time as every one will shorten it to East Midlands anyway. .:o :-?

Did you stop calling it East Midlands when it changed its name!? Cause i didn't and most airports around Europe didn't aswell!  ::) :D

Shortly after 9/11, Newark International was renamed Newark Liberty International for more "patriotism". Kinda silly as the attacks didn't take place in New Jersey. Except one of the planes that were hijacked took off from there.***  Anyway, this required the New York Port Authority, or more rightly the state of New Jersey, to change all the signs around the area to include "Liberty", which used up lots and lots of money. Rather silly if you ask me.

***Which, by the way is the reason spotting at Newark is a lost cause anymore.

-edit, typo.

Around here they all say "Airport".  Makes the name changes easier.  :)
