AT LAST! the time has come for the EGGD (Bristol) airport expansions to be done but local residents of Bristol are complaning about the noise of the aircraft >:(

but I think they should stoff them and do it! If you live in the UK and get the Evening post look out for my email I sent in about it.
What do you think?????? (I live near Bristol and I get the planes flying over us but I dont care)

I live just sw of Bristol and see few planes don't bother me (could fly abit closer though lol) cant hear them so I don't really care what they do, but flights to Miami would be nice so when I go visit my relatives I do not have to go to heathrow.

used to live under the final approach and gear down point for runway 27. Believe me, as much as i love aircraft, and for all the years i lived with 24 hour operations on army/navy and airforce bases. The daily 6am 737-200 from ireland was an annoying wake up call and late night postal runs very quickly started to ruin my interest. Having also worked at Bristol airport, its gonna need a hell of an expansion to its terminals to cope with any further flights. It was a nightmare in there even when it wasn't that busy.
MA there are occasional flights to places like Miami from bristol, but they are mainly chartered summer flights.

this aint simv if it doesn't go off topic mate

As a side note, its a good thing they are expanding the airport, as long as its done right. Everything needs to be done to it basically. Perhaps ramp it up to a simmilar size as Birmingham, theres pleanty of land i'm sure they can buy up to do it. Bristol and Bath have a large asian population in particular, so a longer, bigger runway would open up long haul routes to this region alone.

I don't live in Bristol but my family pretty much fly from the airport every year to go on holiday, plus it's one of my favourite airports. Do you know what expansions they'll be doing?

hell if its still what they were planning when I moved to Bristol in 96, then its runway and terminal expansion, but in the 8 years I lived there, apart from that green house monstrosity very little got done there. Still beats the old brick toilet we used to pick my dad up from 3 times a month. Although it did have good runway views from the waiting area.

They can do what they like at Bristol as long as they leave Shoreham alone.

PS. Bristol International Airport Master Plan 2006 to 2030 (Summary)
http://www.bristolairport.co.uk/upload/bia_master_plan_summary.pdfOur forecasts indicate that up to 12.5 million passengers could be using Bristol International Airport by 2030. The Master Plan includes a preliminary assessment of how the airport might develop further to
meet this anticipated growth. The Government White Paper proposed that a second terminal and a
runway extension would be required.
Our assessment is that a runway extension cannot be justified. However a second terminal and further
development to the south of the runway would be required. Additional land would be required to
accommodate the new facilities.
The Master Plan includes a preliminary assessment of the potential impacts of growth beyond 2015.
We will carry out detailed assessments of the environmental and economic impacts of the
development when we bring forward detailed proposals in future reviews of the Master Plan.
This process will incorporate further public consultation.

the big problem with extending Bristols runway, is that it could only be extended one way, as theres a huge drop off the end of 27. Far too steep to really consider artificial embankments or whatever would be needed.

Being on Simv we all should like one new one whenever it pops
up. In Mumbai I stayed 3yrs on glide path. And when my dad was in Air Force we always seemed to have our house right under the approach barely 1 Km from the runway this was almost for the first 20 yrs of my life.
So we all as jolly good fellows should not complain

I live on approach path to Bristol and I love the aircraft flying over. (I also like spotting at the field)
I personally am in favour of the expansion, as long as it means the lanes around the perimiter are not closed. ;D
Fly from there for every holiday. aswell.........when people moved to live by the Airport, surely they must have realised that it was a growing regional airport and that it was going to happen. So I dont see why theyre complaining.
