opinions on the canadian air force

Be honest.  I am seriously thinking about a career in the canadian air force as an officer and a pilot once I graduate from university.  I've done plenty of research, and the pay is decent and so are the benefits, and the aircraft aren't all that bad.  I know were stereotyped as a lousy military country, but what do you guys think?

It's the Air Force, how is it not cool? ;D

Actually I don't know too much about the Canadian Air Force, but Wikipedia does....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Air_Force

Because it's small, you have to be in Olympian shape with a near-perfect (preferably better) record to fly.  It's really, really hard.  If you have the credentials, go for it!  As Mobius said, if it's an airforce, it's good. :)

yeah I know it is tough, in canada you have to have a university degree and a lot of physical qualifications.  Right now though, they are short and are hiring pilots though, so it would be easier to get in now than ever.

Is it true that working on helicopters makes one eligable for a degree in antique restoration? This is a reference to 'The Frantics' comedic bit.  ;D

I have trained with your ground forces in some joint operations before and they are always a great group of guys.  Remember, the most important thing about the military is that it is only as good as you make it.  There are always those who have a terrible time during their service and they blame the military for that.  There are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself and have a good time so if you do join make sure you make the most of it!  My 8 years in the Marine Corps was the best thing I have ever done, and every day that goes by I am more and more tempted to join the Reserves down in Yakima, Washington just to get on a tank again.  Good luck to you if you decide to join!

Nothing wrong with the CAF, just make sure you make a F-18 hornet slot or something, or you will be bored with the other types lol.. ;D

There's nothing wrong with the P-3 ;) (Or Aurora, as it may be.)

This is where I got most of my information that got me interested.

http://www.airforce.forces.gc.ca/pilot/faqs_e.asp

Somewhere on the site shows the air force fleet of aircraft.
It will still be a while until I'm done school to join, but I think it would be a great experience.

Are you in University now? If not apply to the Royal Military College. You graduate as a Lueitenant or 2nd Lueitenant, depending on how you do there. You will have a hard time becoming a pilot if you don't do that, and do get into the pilot program you have to have 20/20 vision (it sucks) and top physical shape. Since we don't have many planes, its hard to get in and selected. And after basic training, you uysually dont get to pick what you want to fly. They post you for Fighters, or Choppers, or Multi Engine and so on.

Yeah I'm a year from University, and I'm applying to several different courses, maybe even RMC.  I heard something too that if you are in the top of your class in ground school that you get to pick what you want, fighters, helos, etc.
