VOR types...?

Postby Fozzer » Thu Aug 24, 2006 9:36 am

Hello Lads... ;D...!

In the pic below there are two types of VOR beacons.
The one at San Jose is illustrated by a blue circle containing a square in the centre and radial markings on the inside of the circle.
This VOR responds to the normal radio transmissions from my aircraft....114.10

The one at Moffett Federal is illustrated by a blue circle containing a square in the centre but without any radial markings on the inside of the circle.
It does not respond to my radio transmissions. I suspect it may be a Military Beacon only and will not recognise Civil aircraft....117.60

What type of Beacon is the Moffett beacon...?

Cheers Lads...!

Three flavours:
VOR (no range info), 6 sided thing
DME (No heading info) square only
VOR/DME (all of it) square with 6 sided thing iside
VORTAC (same as VOR/DME but with added stuff for airforce use) same icon as vordme

In your example, at KNUQ the ILS doesnt have DME, you dial in the on-field DME on #2 NAV instead.
Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and [url=http://an24.uw.hu/]An-24RV[/ur

Thanks for the quick info. Ivan.... ;)...!

(I must have a peek for a site giving detailed information on various Radio Beacon types, and how they operate)...8)...!

I'm not sure what software that is that you're using to display the map (looks pretty good).. But there are three types of VOR (with or without DME)..

1)

Ta Brett...;)...!

A bit of info here, but it doesn't illustrate the various types in graphical form as they appear on the charts...

...need more exploration...

My Chart is the excellent FS Navigator....
The best FS Payware that money can buy.... ;)...!

Funny you clear this up, I was just on my mock checkride a few days ago and when I was diverted I wondered why there wasn't a compas rose around the airport I was going to (it had a VOR on field).

Here's a little novelty for you....

VOR/NDB/ILS/etc, Navaid long range Morse audio transmissions picked up around the world by a UK radio ham...>>>
