Very worrying indeed. Of course, its the only thing the BBC can seem to talk about. The implications of these restrictions could be widespread :(

in the last 5 minutes, all inbound flights to heathrow, that have not yet left the departure airport, have been cancelled.

I just feel sorry for any families holidays that have been ruined by these terrorists.

The problem here i think is that the security services invloved anre almost damned if they do and damned if they don't. The impilcations are going to be massive. Its all a bit manic at the moment. Noones that clear whats going on or what happened to trigger this in detail.

All easyjet flights to Gatwick cancelled. My friend was only on there last week.

I heard about that on the news. I just hope it's all cleared up by next week (I'm flying to Portugal next week) - hopefully it'll all settle down ASAP dor that matter.

I can imagine that after the dust settles and the immediate threat is assessed and subsides, they'll relax the immediate restrictions.

I think in 5 to 10 years you won't be allowed to bring carry-on bags at all.

Sooner than that if they have any sense. I've been saying for years that they should have brought that in directly after 9/11.

This whole 'no carry-on' policy is playing havoc for budget carriers such as Ryanair. They positivle encourage passengers to ONLY bring carry-on luggae. This saves time and money and makes far more efficient turn arounds on their hectic flight schedules.

Having said that, I wonder what they do with the hold space!? They could do budget long haul flights and fill the hold with fuel :D Can you imagin flying UK-Australia non-stop in a B737? Im a genius!.... Dear Ryanair, I have an interesting proposition for you.....

Wait, so you're for disallowing carry-on baggage?

Just when I thought I had you figured out, you go and pull a fast one. You're a true enigma Doug!  :P ;D

This is getting rediculous. We need to A) Profile the hell out of people. B) Actually look for bombs and weapons and not old lady toe nail clippers. C) Set a dude up next to the cockpit door with an MP5 D) Kill all the terrorists, its hard for a corpse to carry carry on luggage.  ;D

An enigma eh? It makes sense to me. :P

It obviously depends on your definition of carry-on baggage. The regulations are a joke & very often ignored. I've seen people struggling with almost everything you can think of, including the proverbial kitchen sink. Some of these objects are obviously not required on the flight . They cannot possibly be stowed safely in the overhead lockers which is therefore a potential risk to other passengers & crew.

It amazes me what the travelling public thinks of as essentials that they cannot possibly live without for a few hours. I'm told it's even worse on internal flights in the US. Even without the security risk I think it's about time they had a re-think on what is allowed in the passenger cabin of an aircraft.

I've just returned on a flight from Edinburgh to bristol and it was ver smooth. There were a lot of people at edinburgh and a few of the BA flights to London were cancelled but the plane left on time and everything was handled very well.

No problems here!

Yeah everything has improved as passengers have prepared in advance and are taking next to no handluggage which means they only need to be double body-checked. I heard that for Friday the queues were very short and this were running well.

That's the smartest thing I've heard all day, right down to the weapon of choice for the guy next to the cockpit.  ;D

Another thing we could do is let people with concealed carry permits to carry their pistols on board.
