All drama aside, this movie just has so much gorgeous air-to-air footage of C-47s in glorious flight... here we see the search resume...none of this is fake, BTW. Rent it sometime and see for yourself.

Good news- one of the search crews picks up the emergency beacon. They have a better fix now...

Meanwhile at the crash site, the skipper is trying hard to keep his men motivated to stay put and tough it out- there's already murmurs about trying to walk out, or go in search of game (they have a rifle). But he knows it's suicide- the weather is too harsh, and they have no proper survival gear for winter hiking, let alone rations. So in addition to being in charge of surviving and signaling for help, he has to make sure nobody does anything stupid.

For the moment, the men are content to make the most of things. Here they've built a nice snuggly shelter- probably only -10F or so in there.  ;D

Next: part 7... that is: SEVEN, not six... nor eight... and not six. Seven.

Me thinks you numbered incorrectly.

I need to get this movie, looks like lots of great footage of a great plane!

Wazzat? Parts 1,2,3,4,5, and 6 are all there... I checked.

They're beautiful. They look and sound terrific- and only about ten to fifteen years old at the time, I'd imagine.
I don't know what they were shooting from- I don't think it's mentioned in the "Making of" chapter of the DVD... excellent air-to-air shots, though.

Those crews that fly in remote areas with harsh conditions be they military or civilian should be forced to take a military style survival course.

Even the Air Cadets in Canada have a survival course, I am sure the Navy and Army Cadets have one as well.

I have had two, both in the military, a three week and a two week refresher.  It is surprising, much like a first aid course, once you have done it several times it all comes back to you.
Mind you, those courses were over 40 years ago, but the basics of survival never change.

Looking forward to the next part Sean, oh, are you going to supply Hot Buttered Popcorn and a cold drink, I thing you should old chap as I am sitting on the edge of my seat waiting :)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

I'm not sure how much training these ATC guys got in that department- some were ex-military, and some had airline experience, which may have helped... they may have been briefed on some basic Arctic skills... from Gann's writing, there never seemed to be quite enough of anything, and most of the crew members just prayed they wouldn't be forced down in remote country.

As for the refreshments:  you're on your own with that... ;D

...stay tuned for Part Seven... ;) :D
