Sorry Craig :'(
June 29, 2006
Northwest Airlines said it will speed the retirement of its remaining 12 DC10-30 aircraft.
The bankrupt US carrier said that during the next seven months it will replace its DC10s with new Airbus A330s and Boeing 747-400s. The carrier said that currently seven routes are served with DC10 aircraft.
Northwest has the oldest fleet of the network carriers with an average age of 17 years, according data from Bear Stearns.

I'll remember my trips on them fondley.
There is something about NW and the DC10 that will be remembered long after its gone.

It is due sometime in early 2007, no?
But I understand them, cant compete with a DC10 on a route served by A330's
Heck the A330 is 15-20% more fuel efficient that the MD11 ::)

That's too bad... they're one of the last major carriers to regularly operate them (as I'm sure everyone knows). Always looked good in NW colors too.

On my recent trip to/from Fargo, ND via MSP it was fun to see those distinctive tails on the ramp, while landing in an old DC-9. It was a nice distraction to the misery that IS switching flights at that airport.

Well, they'll keep flying as cargobirds probably, won't they? Saudian Arabian visits EBOS occasionally with an MD-11 and I must say they are very gracious birds to watch...
