The colpiot signals the cargo handlers (fake shot):

They wait until that hand drops, then shove the cargo out (real shot).

Now they have plenty of everything, including ammo, but they're ordered to march to a distant mountaintop- no promise of a pickup. Needless to say, they run into a scrap with the enemy, and by the time they reach the mountain, they've lost a great deal, including the radio. But the commander still has his signal mirror (yes, that's Errol Flynn)...
