Plane goes off runway in Aberdeen
An investigation is under way after an aircraft with 19 people on board overshot the end of Aberdeen Airport runway by hundreds of yards.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch will undertake an examination of the plane. One passenger reported there had been a problem with the throttle.
The incident, which disrupted evening flights in and out of Aberdeen, happened at about 2100 BST.
An airport spokeswoman said the City Star flight had travelled from Norway.
"We were put into the brace position"

She added that it was too early to say what might have caused the incident.
Three Grampian Fire and Rescue units and two ambulances were called out but were not required.
One male passenger, who did not want to be named, said: "It came in to land and we were put into the brace position.
"The pilot had everyone under control and we were treated really well."
The 30-seat twin propeller Dornier 328 was travelling from Stavanger.
'Check flights'
City Star Airlines spokeswoman Eleanor Jones said: "The aircraft containing 16 passengers and three crew overran the end of the runway.
"We would confirm that no passengers or crew were injured during this incident.
"We have their welfare as our priority."
The airport's runway had been closed while flights were diverted to Edinburgh. It reopened at 2230 BST to clear a backlog of arrivals and departures.
It was hoped the airport would be open for business as usual on Friday morning, but passengers were advised to check with their airlines for up to date information.

Well that could hae been a lot worse. Maybe the reverse thrust catch got stuck. I dont know anything about the DO 328 but in a KingAir you have to pull the prop lever up and then pull back and I assume this aircraft you probably have to do something similar. Or maybe there was just another malfunction.

I would think that there is a chain of events that caused the overrun and not just a thrust reverse problem. Thrust reverse is not designed to stop an aircraft, it is just another means of slowing down. Brakes stop an aircraft. The primary role of thrust reverse is to reduce brake wear and gear stress. It just so happens to slow the aircraft down too. After all, thrust can be set INOP and an aircraft can still fly. Most of the time the limiting factor when having thrust reverse set to INOP, especially when it is only one engine reverser that us U/S is runway width, not runway length.

True but if they didnt know it was inop they may have planned the landing expecting it to work and then by the time they touchdown they cant takeoff again. I wonder how long the runway is and where they touched down. :-X This is one of those way not enough info times.

The airport has a runway length of 6000 feet. The Do328 has a very short landing and take off capability, admittedly, short landing with thrust reverse of course. However I see the Do328 land at my place of work 3 or 4 times a week and even without thrust reverse, they do not need 6000 feet. HOWEVER, as you say more info needed.

This makes me think it was an emergency landing rather than an unexpected malfunction.

Wonder if they hade any brakes at all.
A small twin prop overshooting a 6000ft runway ???
This will be mighty interesting...
