Because its public property, and has been alot longer than the airport was there.
I believe its recently been bought up by the airport authoritys on the island for airport expansions.

Then time to buy a couple of small boats and go in to business.

PS Catching a few rays on that beach is one thing, but getting sand blasted every few minutes will not do your tan any good at all.

They big guys don't come every few minutes, but more like every few hours. In between you get a lot of DH-6's and GV's and little commuter planes.

Dozens of people risk their lives every time a plane lands, but it's OK because it's public property and it was before the airport was built?  ???

they dont risk their lives at all

they just get a nice little breeze, and when landing the engines dont give out much thrust in that direction so it cant be that bad
however i saw a video once of people waiting while a KLM 747 was taking off, and the thrust pushed them all right down into the sea, it was sooo funny

but no lives are at risk really, unless the pilot makes a serious error

and there are signs saying that incoming and departing jet blast can cause phisical damage so there is plenty of warning

cheers

It is a truely amazing place, and that 747 video is hilarious, if a little dangerous!

Thing is the 747's cant make a fully loaded takeoff and having to fly to a larger airport to refuel before heading back to Europe, usually Grantly Adams
