Here's some notes you will want to jot down if your going through Chicago to Wisconsin.

Tolls:
>Cash: anywhere between .80 and 1.00 per toll. 1.25 to get to WI.
>I-Pass: (for Illinois users) accepted at 1/2 price all tolls.
>E-ZPass* (in the NE corridor) accepted at 1/2 price all tolls
>I-355, I-90, I-94, I-294, Chicago Skyway

*new note: E-Zpass is only accepted on I-355(N/S tollway), I-290(Tri-State), I-88(Reagan) and I-90(Kennedy/NW tollway).

you MUST notify your Home agency before using your E-Zpass on IL tollways. all info from
www.illinoistollway.com
www.ezpass.com

if your using I-Pass or E-Zpass, go through the open-road tolling lanes, no speed restriction.

Expressways under construction:
the Dan Ryan - I90/94 is 1 month underway in it's 2 year redevelopment plan. roads are as follows: going north, 2 lanes open. going south, 1 lane open.
News and IDOT advise all travellers to get off at 103rd St, go towards the lake, go north on Lake Shore Drive (US-45) all the way to Roosevelt rd.. Then hop back on.

I-90(Kennedy) (to rockford) is under construction for Open Road Tolling at the O'Hare Plaza. I-Pass and E-Zpass lanes are reduced to 15mph.

I-80/I-94 (kingery expy) is also under construction. they are about 60% done

Alternatives:
take I-55 or I-80 to I-355. go north. I-355 will become I-290 at some point (i forget) and at WoodField Mall (exits Higgins & Golf rd) it becomes IL-53. continue north all the way to Lake-Cook Rd. go east. take that to I-294 and continue north to WI

or take I-355/I-290 to I-90, and take to rockford, and continue there.

i live on the corner of I-290/IL-53 and I-90, so if you need help, ring me up!

Illinois tollway provides Oasis stops along the way. all of them newly built withing last year. (old ones looked decrepid) on I-90, I-94, and I-290

in case you have car troubles, Illinois Tollway also provides H.E.L.P Trucks
they provide Jump starts, Oil, water, Gasoline, Tire changes, Coolant, etc...
dial *999.

not enough change? no I-Pass or E-Zpass? better check this link

By Plane:
your best bets for a relief airport are:
KPWK* - Palwaukee, IL
06C - Schaumburg, IL
KUGN - Waukegan, IL
KENW - Kenosha, WI
KDPU - Du Page, IL

*-Palwaukee is the best reliever airport (in 2005 ;)) but, its close proximity to O'Hare (KORD) makes landing a bit harder. also, 2 runways and 5 taxiways are under construction (they were painting the taxi lines last i saw)
www.palwaukee.org

*- KPWK is my home airport ;)
