Kind of goofy how they neglected to notify ATC of a canopy flying through the air, after which it crashed into a house....::)

Hmmm. I wonder how that happened. Lucky it didn't fall on someone or the sh*t would really start flying. Even so, I expect there will be a full investigation leading to more restrictions on warbirds.

I can't find any reports on the incident so can't comment. Not much ATC could do even if they had been informed.

Er, yep, and what exactly would ATC have done about it - evactuated every house in the region within the space of a minute of two?

I'm sure they had more important things to worry about, such as the structural integrity of the aircraft which has just had a heavy lump of metal and perspex fall off...

Poor chap in the back, at least Mr D in the front had a helmet an visor. Must have been very traumatic for them both...

A daring pilot from England regardless of loosing his canopy, flew on to make a landing in Berlin. He made no SOS call over the international distress frequency ::)

.... stated that flying without a canopy is basically allowed, however a radio call would be the standard procedure.

I challenge any of them to go and try and talk in a Merlin engined cabriolet... If there had been a grave danger of the aircraft falling out of the sky then maybe a call would have been given...

A Merlin engined cabriolet...nice turn of phrase Charlie. As I said Boys Own. It does not matter if it is a political report, Herr Schmitt has grown a prize winning leak or a car crash, it always starts, "it was a dark and stormy night".

PS Fozzer, I hate to be a smart ass, but how about testing the button before you kit up ;D ;D

I couldn't help wondeing what the German media makes of all those little swastikas painted below the missing canopy. I thought it was illegal to display the swastika in Germany on a German aircraft, never mind an American one.
