HI all,

You thought economy seats were bad, look here:

A great thing about cruising the newspaper is that you never know just what you're apt to find. For example, take the item in Tuesday's Business section about an idea floating around to pack more passengers into airliners.

To maximize efficiency, airlines are trying to use every bit of space by cramming in seats just about everywhere possible. Anyone who's been on an airliner recently is familiar with the drill. It seems to be a losing battle

Not practical for a 5 hour flight...but for the 30-45 minute commuter flights?

Might be attractive.

I read about this the other day. Seems VERY stupid IMHO! What happens in an emergency?

I suspect this is just another poke at Airbus. ::)
http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/news/archives/2006/04/25/standingroom_in_planes_will_it_fly.html

Update: The news blog finally made contacted with Airbus, which described the IHT article as a "fantastic story but not true".

The Airbus official went on to say: "It is not something that Airbus has been working on and if flies in the face of what we're doing with the A380, which is more room. We can assure you it is not an Airbus idea, we have not talked about it inside Airbus and our customers have not asked us about such an idea."

Airbus is now seeking a correction to the New York Times article carried by the IHT. Well, it seems there are limits to blue skies thinking.

They were talking about it on CNN the other night.  Long haul no way...but for a little CRJ or short 737 hop of under 2 hours I could see it.  If it would bring the tickets down a $100 bucks or so I would gladly take it.  Just not on anything more then 2 hours :P  Not like 2 hours sitting in a cramped economy seat is any better ::)
