Emirates flight EK39

OK this morning (10/02/06) I was on the bus into my local town and looked into the sky as you do and there was a beautiful Emirates 777 on final approach to BHX. I am sure it was a -300 but this flight, EK39, is usually operated by a -200. I know recently a -300 has visited BHX for whatever reasons I was just wondering if anyone had any information as to what plane actually operated this morning?

Thanks very much

RICH

Best guess is capacity increase... probably for Ashura. Dunno if Mahan flies there too

There were a couple of 747's in at birmingham recently for a religious holiday. This is the time of year when you get some unusually large planes in.

@Craigl: the big ones are for Haji traffic, where they move 2 million people in and out in about 3 days for an event that has a duration of a week.

Ashura is shia only, and isn't that heavy on traffic at the moment because Kerbala isn't the most safest place on earth to go to... There might be some extra traffic from Mahan and Iran air thought (and any airline that has a hub with connections to there)
