Belly Landing at Atlanta Charlie Brown.

I've just watched live on Sky News ...... A Kingair A100 has made a successful belly landing at the airport in the subject. 4 People walked away unscathed .... even going back to the aircraft to collect belongings and shut the door.

The starboard gear had failed to deploy properly, even after attempting a touch and go to bounce it out of the bay.

A spectacularly understated landing ...... no sparks no drama  just a perfect touchdown  with no gear and the props feathered.

This might be the stupidest question, but are such landings performed on grass, or the actual runway?

If at all possible, the actual runway-belly landings on grass are extremely dangerous.

This one was straight down the centre line on the runway and probably a softer landing that with the gear down.

Just a quick bump of this one ......... There's a link to the video of this on a post from Ramos about Virtual O'Hare. It's the same link just scroll down the page a bit. The link is in the right hand column.

I.E. only.

I bet the fire extinguishing foam did more damage than the belly landing itself!  :o

Digging in isn't the problem (digging in is more or less safe to the passengers), flipping and burning is ;)
