From USA Today:

Regional jets appear on endangered species list

By Marilyn Adams, USA TODAY
The sleek little 50-seat regional jet that changed the airline industry 14 years ago is now a falling star, the victim of changing economics.

Interesting - first I hear /read of Bombardier suspending production...  So the RJs may be superseded by the newer ERJ-170/190 type of small airliner?

Boeing might put back the 717 in production? hehe

I think it is more likely you'll see them replaced by turbo-props like the Fokkers you see at many European airports now Felix.... more fuel efficient, less noise etc...

In that case, it's interesting how the RJs were replacing turboprops as they came out and now, they're being replaced the those that they replaced....

That's one for the quotes book!

Very true though.

Turboprop engines are fundamentally more efficient as well as cheaper.  It really isn't suprising to see the RJs fading away.

About Fokker..

Rumours are increasing that theyll make a restart..
They would re-build fokker 70/100's with more/very fuel economic engines. KLM/Air France has allready shown major Interest.

WOuld be nice to have Fokker back again ;D

And sexier.

As long as the prop has more than four blades. ;)

Re-engine some of those RJs with pusher prop-fans?  (Like the CB-123 was supposed to have been?)
