Can a teen in the U.S. still go down to your local GA airport and be a lineboy? Or do you need to have special training now? I would love to go down to my local big GA airport and work as a lineboy for some money or even better, flying lessons! I realize I need to learn the hand signals and stuff about AVFuel and stuff but I hope Its still okay for me to work there without taking training courses or having to be 18 or something like that.
(Its at this moment expanding greatly and paving the runway so I assume there will be more traffic there, its Corning Painted Post Airport,Corning NY)

i don't see why you would have any problems. You're required to go through training anyway. I worked at a smaller airport for a summer before moving on to a larger GA airport the following summer. Still had to go through the training. It only took two days though.
Good luck, and have fun! I loved that job!

I never set out to be a lineboy, but when I was struggling to pay for my PP training (in my 30s! :-X), I made a deal with the owner of the flight school to work for dual time... sweeping hangars, cleaning planes (very familiar witth the bellies of the C172, C150, and PA28 now), and did some remodeling of the offices. I even repaired the broken bench seat in the bus-stop shelter by the airport road... LOL. It was hard work, and it didn't count for much time, but it helped keep me flying.
The moral? Can't hurt to ask...

Sounds great! A couple more questions:
1. Do I need to pay for the training?
2. Do I need to get training before asking for a job or does the individual airport provide it?
3. What are the exact duties I would do?
