Looks like a DC-3 just crashed in Ft. Lauderdale.  They were showing pictures, and the plane is a total loss...  :(  All the crew seems to have died in the crash.

Wow!  From the looks of the plane, they were extremely lucky.  MSNBC was reporting no survivors...  ::)

They said he just missed a building, pretty crazy since in Southern Fla. there is no room for error (for those of you who don't understand Southern Fla. is pretty dense)

Whew... glad it wasn't as bad as first post indicated. The plane is as messed-up as it looks mostly due to the fire, I'd imagine... the one small pic I've seen indicates this was a pretty hairy emergency landing... in the street, no less! Good job, but shame about that old plane...

I imagine they will scrap her, as far as I knew I never thought the US had any DC-3 still flying around even with cargo.

I know that quite a few actually fly out of Opa Locka airport in North Miami...

Not much left to scrap... she pretty much burned up.
I wish I could remember the companies' names, but there are still  a few DC3s hauling freight in that part of the world- some with turbine conversions. They seem to age pretty well, even with regular hard-working use.

When I was down in Puerto Rico, there was a whole fleet of them in service. While relaxing on the beach sipping fruity drinks, they were quite common to see. Actually you would here this deep rumble and I knew what was coming!
