Air Canada, long a "Prestige Customer" for Airbus, struck a blow to Airbus even as it prepares for the launch of the A380 Super Jumbo.

Air Canada has signed a deal with Boeing for a major fleet modernization effort, buying 18 Boeing 777s and 14 787s. The contract is valued at $6 Billion. The airline also has options on a further 18 777s and 46 787s.

Air Canada will continue to operate Airbus aircraft, primariy in the domestic, narrow body, market.

Considering the financial state of Air Canada, the order surprises me. But a good choice. The 787 should cover all their north american operations, and the 777 its over-seas.
