Almost took my flippin' head off...

Postby Boss_BlueAngels » Mon Apr 18, 2005 7:21 pm

Dang, today I decided to brave the usual Ellensburg wind with my RC plane... and I finally called it quits when I actually had to hit the ground in order to not hit myself with the plane!  Not once, but THREE times!  Of course, it was the winds fault...  ;D ;D but man!  ASOS was reporting 20kt winds with gusts to 25.

Each time I approached about 10 feet in front of me, and I had the plane a pretty good distance up... about 15 feet or so, and then all the sudden the wind would just STOP, causing the plane to drop and turn a bit to lighn up for a perfect header right into me.  I felt like a moron out there dodging my own plane.  The other day the wind was 18 knots, but pretty steady and was able to very gently fly the plane right into my hands.

Humm... fun stuff.
The day is always better when you're flying upside down.

Uh, you know that box in your hands......well, uh, ...its to direct the flight of the miniature aircraft in your vicinity.......you just may want to use it to start lining up an approach which may not have the ability to come to the same place on earth which you occupy at the time...... ::)

..........Just a suggestion from someone who also flies R/C from time to time.......... ;)

my RC plane was low on batteries, so i was turning it into the wind to land. If i banked the wings to much it would go down and crash, so i had to turn with a bad turnin circle..
When i was turning it into the wind, the plane got close to me. So i was like, oh crap pull up, so i pulled up , and it passed within 1 metre of cliping my head, then when it went past me, turned of the engine , then , oh crap trees, so i turned the engine back on and turned right >.
but the engine was to low on power so it crashed :(
my plane is made of foam so it wasnt damaged at all.
