How come they don't know whether the plane was coming or going?

A friend of mine was doing some of his first practice landings when a deer ran across the runway while he was landing and the instructor had to take take over and avoid the deer, sounded pretty nuts when he told me.

Could be an uncontrolled airport, or the reporters just haven't spoken to anyone about that part quite yet.

My guess would be that they havnt actually talked to anyone who was involved yet. Does anyone know what kind of plane that is? Its sort of wierd looking.

The deer was killed.
Well that's good to know.
Only pilots on board, no tellin' where it was headed to or from.

D'oh! A deer!
Y'know, one way to prevent this might be to put horns on planes... I lived in a semi-rural area for a few years and the deer were like flies up there- every night I'd have some close shaves on the road. They will in fact freeze in the headlights ("hey, wait a minute, is that the sun, or -" BAM!!!), but I found that if I tooted the horn, they'd recognize that sound as meaning "danger" and get out of the way.
Of course, they're quick, and one doesn't always see them in time. And remember, everybody: if you see one deer leap across the road or runway, there's almost always at least one more behind it.

I for one want to see cow-catchers on the front of all aircraft. Kinda like the ole steam loco's of the wild wild west.

"Tower, Delta 921 just took off, we hit some sort of animal, don't worry about it though, already notified our caterers."
