How are pilots paid???

Postby jrpilot » Thu Dec 30, 2004 10:48 pm

Hello, how are pilots paid...

1) Commercial pilots who fly trans-oceanic routes and HAVE TO STAY OVER-NITE...do they get paid when "on the road" or is that considered a home

2) regional pilots who may fly 4 times a day...when sitting in Detroit in a CRJ and your next flight is in 3 hours are you paid???

I have heard that pilots pay begins when they have left the gait so many pilots pull out early even though there may be a delay???

I'd have thought most are salaried.... The military certainly are, as I believe are airlines in europe...

I read somewhere pilots are paid once the beacon light is switched on at some airlines, others engine start up is the pay start, and some pay a flat rate like a normal job. Airlines will also pay you based on your location, so if you live in an expensive city, they will give you an allowance to cover the extra costs. I dontknow if thats just F/A's or pilots aswell.

Those who fly the transoceanic routes are paid again either from beacon light activation(theres a sensor which logs this for the company) or engine start. They dont get paid for the time they spend in the other country, but in most cases it isnt nessicary as they are being paid $50 to $100 an hour depending on seniority.

I have also heard that regional pilots don't get paid if they don't fly, depending on the airline.  I don't think you are salaried until you're very high in the rank structure, and even then that's probably only with some airlines.
