And she soulds like someone's beating a cat. It's amazing what singers sound like without computers.
Looks like Air Canada is out of the red and Celin Dion is their new spokeswoman.

Also check out their new livery. I don't think I like it. The old one was nicer, had some class.

I like it.
Just as with United, Air Canada has reverted to a kind of retro looking, subtle color scheme - lightyears away from the screaming Jazz liveries  ;)

I will never fly AC again.

Celine Dion they pick?

Why not RUSH? Or The Bare Naked Ladies (that's a group, not the flight attendants), or somebody who'
s main claim to fame isn't involved with singing a song used in a movie about one of the greatest transportation disasters in history?!?!?!?

The Ladies are socialists so they'd never support a big corporation. Still there are lots of better Canadian celebreties too choose from. My mom thinks that Celine might have bailed out Air Canada. She is stinking rich after all.

Your link doesn't work for me Iroquois but being a simple Brit I can't understand what this is all about. I can only assume that Celine Dion is not the most popular recording artist in your country. Maybe it's a political thing. I'm not her greatest fan but always thought she's more talented than a lot of other singers. She's also an internationally famous Canadian artist. Come to think of it I couldn't name any others offhand. If I hear her singing or if someone mentions her name I immediately think of Canada. I can't think of anyone more suitable to advertise your national airline. ::)

Actually Celine Dion is the most popular Canadian recording artist. She's making loads of money with her husband who's probably older than even Fozzer.  ;D I don't even concider her Canadian but that's a political thing.

Sure we've got lots of singers. The Guess Who, Tragically Hip, Pan Face (AKA Avril, too much black makeup :P), etc. They should have got Leslie Nielson. Remember Airplane.   ;)

Shania Twain!

Her song UP! would have made a great promo for the airline.

Celine can go back to her Vegas show until that ends and then back home to Switzerland. She won't be missed outside of La Belle Provence.

They could have gone with Don Cherry...beauty! :)

Very well put! ;D

They should have got Leslie Nielsen.

LoL! ;D

Yuk,hell no...

Like Hagar said, Celine would be the best berson to promote AC. As long as she doesn't sing...;)

LOL - Hagar; it's a cultural thing - Canadians just have a thing against singers that sound like bagpipes being strangled. ;D
If I had to choose a Canadian icon to represent Air Canada; it wouldn't be Don Cherry - that'd be great; but he'd be too busy tearing strips off the airline to promote them. ;D

I'd go with Geddy Lee myself; he'd be perfect. I'm sure we all remember "Take off! To the Great White North! Take off! It's a beauty way to go..."

Of course; Darby Mills could be a good choice as well - would certainly go a long way to dispelling the syrupy 'fluffy nice' image we have around the world....

;D

Why AC why?!  And good point there, Silver Fox.  The whole disaster soundtrack -> airline promoter/ambassador just does not gel.  I would go with Rush, or Leslie Nielsen, as mentioned. (I just found out that he's from the same city as me! I had no idea1)

Personally, I think Air Canada should have known better and steered right away from her.  That whole Bryan Adams/Celine stereotype sucks.   :-/

Will Pam Anderson safice Heretic?  ;D

Don Cherry would be funny. I can see it now. "All these European airlines, they're all pussies. They don't even hit ya!" Don Cherry is really a big softy. He just opened a cancer hospice just down the road from me in honor of his wife who had died a few years back. He also owned a local restaurant. Funny he's not from around here. People like him because he speaks his mind. Unfortunately there isn't a filter between his brain and his mouth.

As for Shania, she's from Timmons Ontario. It's about 8 hours north of Toronto and it's a couple hours west of Sault St Marie. She used to be a dirt poor cocktail waitress before she was discovered.

As for Pam, Canada's most famous star. The walking ad for silicon is from Vancouver.

Like most foreigners I know nothing of internal Canadian politics. Air Canada is an international airline.

Quebec doesn't want to be a part of Canada.

Quebec doesn't want to be a part of Canada.

This might be so but I understand that Air Canada is based in Montreal. This has nothing to do with me but I was simply curious about the obviously strong feelings against the "most popular Canadian recording artist" (your words, not mine), not only in Canada but all over the world. As I said, this is obviously a matter of internal politics & unfortunately I know very little about Canada. It really depends what market this advertising is aimed at. Air Canada is an international airline so I imagine they need to compete with other successful national carriers. I DO know that Celine Dion is Canadian (the same goes for Bryan Adams) but I've never heard of most of the other personalities mentioned in this thread. I'm sorry but until recently I never realised that the stars I am familar with, like Shania Twain, Leslie Neilsen & even Pam Anderson are Canadians.

I've been reading a little of the history behind all this & hope it succeeds. I often wonder if the vast expense involved in giving companies a new image would be better spent elsewhere. They never seem to mention the expense involved in changing it all back again if it doesn't work out as happened with BA & more recently our own Royal Mail. What genius dreamed up the name Consignia for goodness sake? ??? ::)

See, now you have no idea what I'm going on about. 8) I'll bow out now & let you chaps get on with it. ;)

Dumbness with boobs. If AC wants to risk its reputation...why not? ;)

If it really has to be a band,I'd suggest Nickelback or Billy Talent. ;D
