How old do you have to be to fly?

Ever since my first flight and airshow when I was 5, I've wanted to pilot a plane. There's a lot of other things that made me interested in flight between now and then, but that's a long story. But I've always thought I was too young, until recently, I heard about someone flying a plane cross-country who is barely older than me. So what's the age limit on learning to fly, if there is one?

That was a quick response. Thanks, guess I'll still be getting my driver's license first.

alot of people will actually learn to fly before they turn 18 then take their test on or around their 18th birthday. Works well that way.

Age requiment? Hell I was flying right seat in a Citation across the county when I was 14 (a single pilot one, so don't give me that you need a license to fly right seat bull).

In the U.S;

14 to solo gliders

16 for license in gliders/ballons

17 for license in Powered aircraft (including helicopters)

18 for your commerical.

23 for your ATP.

Just look at the website of the aviation authority of your country. It seems to vary between 16-18 depending where you are from

Just type
minimum age for pilots licence
into a Google search & you will get a good idea ..

Correct. 16 to solo 17 to get the license any age to start. :D

I started at 11 and was done within a month then just took occasional rides to keep current, went through 5 instructors because they kept going to the airlines and I was there for so long. Got my license the minute I turned 17 (literally).

You can recieve your licence at the age of 16 , get 15+ instructed flight hours free, get 35-40+ for about 250$, and LOTS of ground instruction in the US, If you're a Civil Air Patrol Cadet- The CAP is the Air Force's auxillery- check out www.cap.gov for more information.

Here in good old New Zealand i dont think there is a set age limit as such for first solo....although i was 16... but all i had to do was show my medical certificate and when my instructor thought i was ready he jumped out.... I can still remember seeing him run across the taxi way back to the aeroclub(i was waiting to take off!!!)...I had no warning..lol. it was great
