I have been reading WWII plane data and they mention it has 'stressed skin'. What is that? ???

Stressed skin refers to using the aircraft skin as part of the structure and not just as an aerodynamic cover. This results in a lighter airframe. Most modern planes will have a mixture of stressed and unstressed panels, with unstressed being common in areas where a hatch needs to be.

Mono' and semimono'. Mono is the version that uses the aircraft skin for support, semimono uses the skin for a portion and a light substructure for the rest. Mono is drasticly lighter but it is far more difficult to repair. It has strength like a pop can: it can withstand tons of force in certan directions but zero in others which will cause the plane to cave in.
