it is nice to see they are looking into it, but just isnt possible right now. Maybe ejection seats with parachutes attached to each seat:) either way if your going down in the mid atlantic its a safe bet your either gonna be eaten by sharks or die of frost bite assuming you even survive the impact

the Cirrus  SR-22's have a ballistic parachute that deploys from behind the cockpit.    it's only a GA four seater though ::)

That is ridiculous!
Now, instead of an aircraft falling to earth fast and all on board having a very quick death, they would have time to take in the sights and sounds of impending doom while they watch the ground approach only to have tons of steel and fuel rain down on top of them while they are buckled in their seats thus, crushing and burning everybody while jet propulsion rockets send the entire clump of metal into a mountainside!  ::)

If I am going to crash in a huge jetliner filled with tons of fuel, going anywhere over 150mph,....make it a quick death!

Bwha ha ha ha! That is the dumbest thing I have heard in a long time. I am now mailing this to all my aviation professors. Yes Dave that is horrible; now they get to ponder their impending doom. Gee thanks.

Granted I have respect for his intentions as well but as a future airline pilot...... NO, NO, NO.  Like I or anyone else wants to be at the mercy of the winds and a parachute? Don't think so, and I know Boeing and the airlines don't think so either.  The system for small aircraft is contriversial enough and that takes the whole plane down in one piece, but purposely breaking an airliner up in mid air!?! I can't even mentaly picure that, or any pilot or passenger for that matter that would be willing to ride that.

Who will be the idiot to test the system out? And no it wouldnt be interesting to watch, it would be a life altering experince, and not a good one at that.

parachute or not, your gonna have pleanty of time ponder. from 30,000 feet, its still gonna take a good minute or so to hit the ground/water. best you can hope for is to be knocked unconscious by some debris or at that altitude, run out of oxygen

Ask any person about to die if they'd rather have:

1. Instant Death.
2. 1/1,000,000 chance to live.
3. A few more minutes to think about it.

And I bet you $1 not many will pick #1.
