I'm sure if it is cancelled, it'll be back eventually...

they cant afford to cancel it. To many jobs and too much money has been put into this already. As my post about the eurofighters showed, the F-15 is about at the end of its life really and the F-22 is desperatly needed.
I suppose if they really wanted to, they cancel this for a few years work on it update it, and as a stop gap they could purchase some Typhoons, give them an american designation and name. That way they have exactly what they need for the time being for a 1/4 of the cost of the F-22, then when the war costs have been covered and they have the money they sell off the typhoons to someone else(canada:)) and use that money to cover some of the costs of the F-22

they won't cancel it...in 2003 the USAF invested 4090,4 million $ in 23 Raptors. cancelling the program now would make those 23 planes way to expensive to keep in active duty. not only the development costs but also the maintenance would become extremely expensive. the best example i can give is the B-2 bomber...
other option would be to store them at a bone yard but that would be stupid of course.

look what happend to the commanche, how much money was invested into that and it was just cancelled. like pippin said if it is cancelled it wouldnt be a permanent thing. But your right it would be too expensive to cancel it, doesnt mean they wont though

I still cant belive those b*st*rds cancelled the Comanche! But there is still the danger of the F-22 being cancelld anyway, even though the F-15 is getting old! 3 words: JOINT STRIKE FIGHTER! I wouldnt be happy if they cancelled the Raptor but at least there would be an equally cool plane still being developed.

the JSF's future is also in the hands of politicians, but alot of the info of that is being kept secret. Part of my dads teams job is to evaluate the JSF throughout the design process and pass on all the info and recommendations to the MOD.

i thought the JSF is to replace the F-16's and not the F-15's...the F-22 needs to replace the Strike Eagle...or am i wrong?

I think if there is enough foreign interest (such as the RN) then they'll rescind this decision... But only time will tell!

urmm, the F-22 isnt being offered for export to anyone LOL, or at least not from what i have heard. at $300 million an airframe not to many places can afford it. Then again maybe i have spent to much time locked in a silly place to know any differant

I heard some funny rumours about the RN and RAF being interested (I understand that the RN have gone with the J-35 now or something)...
Ah well I'm sure if the Saudis offer enough big wads of cash..... But hey that is the free-market economy
