glasses terminology??????

I am living in saudi arabia. so here the term use for glasses power is -1 or -2 etc . what does this 20/20 means.
        Suppose if i can see very poorer without glasses but with the help glasses or contact lenses i can see clearly so it is ok in aviation????????? :(

sorry about the delay on the answer...

"20/20. Normal visual acuity. Upper number is the standard distance (20 feet) between an eye being tested and the eye chart; lower number indicates that a tested eye can see the same small standard-sized letters or symbols as a normal eye at 20 feet. "

hey farhan :)

yes, you can fly a civil plane as long as you have vision correctable within 20/20 ;)... But I don't think the military will let you :P...

I'm not sure of the military requirements in all countries. Former RAF Harrier display pilot David Haines wears glasses while flying. http://www.f4aviation.co.uk/airshow00/waddo/harrier.htm
