Hello everyone,
I was very intersted in Kai Tak airport since I first heared about it. I never had a chance to go there before it closed so I was wondering, how does it look today? I couldn't really find any pictures which show how interior and exterior of terminal buildings look today (not before), runways, parking, and so on...If anybody can show me It would be greatly appriciated  :)  Thanks in advance.

But why was Kai Tak closed? Was it closed because the approach was so tought that it just required a new airport? ::)

both i believe. Kai Tak has seen many an incident with planes having close calls and in a few cases running into the harbour.
They are now building a second offshore international airport nearby, so i am guessing expansion of Asian air travel must be huge

Is it the one in Japan? I saw a photo of a new offshore airport building somewhere in Japan.

Exactly! You are rite! Osaka's Kansai international, the new one, was an offshore airport. You have to drive along a long long  bridge before reaching it. They are building a new runway by reclaiming the land, as the traffic gets more. Another one in Japan is the New Nagoya Airport, which is also built on a reclaimed land. Hope that will answer your questions! ;D

hoy,
Thanks for your reply. Man that's a lot of work building an airport on water. BTW, is Kai Tak an offshore airport or not?

Is it going to be as popular, as beautifull, as bus as Kansai? I would love to see it being used by heavies and other cool jets just like Kansai.
