True true, I flew on that once, lucky airports  ;D All they gotta do is give it fuel and other than that its independent...too bad it isnt classified as 'long range' so it cant participate in this poll! And something really makes me not like the 747...lol, I feel that it has much more noise in the cabin and the vibrations are worse than that on an Airbus, 777 or Il-96

thats because any airbus bigger than an A320 doesnt produce enough power to hear or feel anything anyway:)

I've travveled on 747's 4 times in my life, and you don't get to sleep until you are completely exhausted in the economy class... behind the wing so you have the vibrations and the noise of the engines

Absolutely true, and I bet that you flew on the 400 model, (so did I once) but when I was 11 I flew on TWA and I dont think they use 400's but that was 5 years ago and at that time I didnt keep track of all the models) but the 400 is the newer one...imagine what it must have been like to fly on the other models...like as soon as it takes off, reaches cruising altitude, and in 10 minutes for some reason starts shaking for the rest of the flight, but you eventually get used to it.

we didnt have any of those problems on the 747 when my family flew on one. admitidly it wasnt the quietes plane i have ever been on but wasnt shakey. the quietest belongs to a KLM 737 i was on. best for takeoff noise and feeling def goes to the DC10 those engines are absolutly amazing, the power and sound is unbelievable. sadly the 777 which should sound and feel like a rocket doesnt because of the size of it.

Well, I dont think that sound means power, I see the idea engine as powerfull AND quiet. Lets say the IL-86, yes it is powerfull, but its crazy loud, and IL-96 is MORE powerfull by about 20% but its about 50% of the noise! And it gets extremely annoying if the vibrations and noise is through the roof. However, it also depends on the airline to how they soundproof their planes, and yes KLM is one of the best.

oh i know that:), if it did a 737-200 would be used to goto the moon. about the only plane sound means power for is concorde.

Hehehe, true true, I do find it entartaining how the old old 707's were insanely noisy yet the power output was miniscule! And you are right about that, sound=power only on Concorde and Tu-144  ;D
Also interesting is how the IL-96 is tied with the 777 for first place, and how MD11 or the Airbuses have gotten no votes, what happen to all the people defending the airbus in previous posts?? Dont more people come to this board ???

sadly the Md11 was a big failure, what should have been a perfect replacement for the DC10 and could have been easly updated with technology as times changed. turned out because of a few design flaws as a big flop. As for the airbus, who knows what happend to them:) as far as i am concerned, they are just nothing special, they are to plain and basic. and as i have beaten to death, underpowered:)
