Sad crash in Shanghai yesterday, Cessna 208bb amphibian on first flight, fully loaded. 5 dead, 5 injured. Initial view looks as if take off run was crosswind and against the current with too much flap and too little clear water,

Very sad. Thanks to exacting standards in pilot training, usually there is one primary mistake in an air crash and I am guessing this time it's overweight and failing to abandon take off at the critical point.

 Very true Pete: not only baggage overweight but also distributing baggage weight evenly  like, maybe too nose-heavy?... "and failing to abandon take off at the critical point" that's hitting the nail on the head!. As far as passengers it was within specs (9 pass + 1 pilot).

Don't take off towards a bridge.

Considering the drag of floats in water, it appears to have gone into the bridge at a fair lick.

Odd.
