I remember the start of her flight and thinking how wonderful it was.
"But in a statement Miss Curtis-Taylor said: ‘For the avoidance of doubt, I have always been the sole pilot’, despite Mr Gritsch saying ‘it was not a solo flight’."
"I have always been the sole pilot’"
So Mr Gritsch's title was neither pilot nor co-pilot. He was navigator, flight engineer, mechanic, bottle washer, etc.
And the BBC not only went along with this fiction, but almost completely edited him out of the story, leaving only a trace of him in their video. That way they could say, if caught, that the "story" was about her, not him.
Nowadays, reality is a flexible term. It means whatever "we" want it to mean.
True story from the 1990's
Starbucks was involved in the Kona coffee scandal of the 1990s.
When confronted by the fact that Starbucks "Kona" coffee was made from Brazilian coffee beans, the owner of Starbucks said this (as best I can recall);
"When you go into a grocery store and buy French bread, you know that it's not made in France. What we sell is good coffee that's as good as Kona."
