Is there anything honest left in this world?

Postby Sprocket » Sun Jul 03, 2016 3:24 am

.
January 2015 sees a lady pilot set out to replicate an historic flight, later to claim success.

Turns out it was far less than the full truth. Even the navigation gear turns out to be modern technology: :naughty:

Sad isn't it?

I remember the start of her flight and thinking how wonderful it was.

"But in a statement Miss Curtis-Taylor said: ‘For the avoidance of doubt, I have always been the sole pilot’, despite Mr Gritsch saying ‘it was not a solo flight’."

"I have always been the sole pilot’"

So Mr Gritsch's title was neither pilot nor co-pilot. He was navigator, flight engineer, mechanic, bottle washer, etc.

And the BBC not only went along with this fiction, but almost completely edited him out of the story, leaving only a trace of him in their video. That way they could say, if caught, that the "story" was about her, not him.

Nowadays, reality is a flexible term. It means whatever "we" want it to mean.

True story from the 1990's

Starbucks was involved in the Kona coffee scandal of the 1990s.

When confronted by the fact that Starbucks "Kona" coffee was made from Brazilian coffee beans, the owner of Starbucks said this (as best I can recall);

"When you go into a grocery store and buy French bread, you know that it's not made in France. What we sell is good coffee that's as good as Kona."

Wow... looks like she misled a whole bunch of people!

I don't have a problem with her airplane and her 'modern' Instruments (it is the 21st Century, you know), but if she said she was going to be the 'sole' pilot, then that's the way she was supposed to do it... SOLO.

It sounds like another hoax in the name of Greed and False Fame. Her "phantom mechanic" should have exposed the hoax right from the start but evidently he was just as guilty.

There's a special place in Hell for those who would tarnish the names and deeds of real heroes.

An Aircraft Mechanic only needs two tools, Duct Tape and WD40.
If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to - use the WD40.

Me?...

I ironed the Spar-Spangled-Spanner flag on the "Moon", to prevent it from flapping during filming....

It's a mess.

More of a mess is the edit record of her Wikipedia page.

If it was politics it'd be what we call spin... On a personal level, as the accusations appear to be true, as she has "clarified" what actually happened - it wasn't at all solo - I hope she has the decency to return some of the "gongs" she was awarded.
