I can imagine the problems....

Helicopters are extremely noisy, annoying, and windy creatures, especially when it come to commercial passenger transport!

They drive me daft flying overhead!

(I throw stones at them!).... ;) ....!

Paul.... ...!

Nice read Mark...just another reason Politicians should not be involved in Decision Making when it comes to the Design and Development of Kits such as the Fairey Rotodyne, Avro Arrow...etc. etc.

Given time the noise factor would have been worked out along with any other bugs.

Funny how politicians never cut costs on their Embassy Parties...it is protocol that each Embassy must out do the previous one for visiting Dignitaries who really are a bunch of meal freeloaders...

Will leave it at that as I don't want this thread to become Political in any way shape or form.... :naughty:

I think anyone who has been in the military or comes from a military family feels the same way Doug! The list goes on and on. This is why I've boycotted Ferrero Rocher, part of my protest against the establishment and their expensive dinners :-D
I think the idea of the Rotodyne needs to be looked at again, maybe its time is finally coming...

I'm with Fozzer here. Helicopters are my pet hate for the noise. During wildfire season here, upwards of 20 helicopters fly right over my house with their supersonic blades exploding into machine-gun like chatter. We also have 2 helicopter bases of the airport right next the river and I know that a regular helicopter service goes between Vancouver and Victoria BC. The noise is horrendous and penetrates the most soundproof of Hotels and High-rise structures. I also have heard the Fairey Rotodyne way back in '59 and I can tell you that the banshee screaming of those high speed rotor blades is worse than standing under a Vulcan running up for a QRA take-off. The Rotodyne was a great idea for Oil field work in the desert, or Antarctic exploration where I'm sure it could be heard all the way to Australia. I wish Okanagan Helicopters had continued with their proposition, then they would have drowned out the politicians in Victoria.
