Hi, I know that airplane. The US airforce took the engines off of a C-123 cargo aircraft to make it into an experimental glider transport. It was called the XG-20. I don't recall if they actually built any production aircraft but I don't think so. It would make a fun FSX novelty airplane, I'd like to fly it.

You guys cheated!

Flacke, you're kinda right, but you have it reversed.

The Chase XCG-20

The Chase XCG-20, also known as the XG-20 and by the company designation MS-8 Avitruc, was a large assault glider developed immediately after World War II by the Chase Aircraft Company for the United States Air Force, and was the largest glider ever built in the United States.

However, Chase had designed the aircraft to allow for the easy installation of engines; the first XG-20 had already been modified with two radial piston engines, becoming the XC-123, the prototype of the long-serving C-123 Provider family of transports.

Anyway, good going.

There were a lot of strange concepts back then. At one point I worked for Martin Marietta in Maryland.

I was assisting someone in an old storage room and saw plans in a rack. They were dated 1950, and were for an amphibious fighter plane.

I wish I could recall details, but it's been too long ago.

It's sad to think that they were probably tossed in the trash. :(
