Missile launched at Thomson 737 in August.

Just reading in the news that the pilot of a Thomson 737 had to take evasive action when a missile was launched at it. This happened in August as the flight approached Sharm el-Sheikh.

The Department of Transport has confirmed the incident.

Why holiday flights were allowed to go there after this is beyond my reasoning. On a personal level I wouldn't go anywhere near North Africa for a Holiday, I made that decision about 2 years ago.

From that article:
"A spokesman said: "The DfT conducted a full investigation in conjunction with other UK government experts. After reviewing the details of the case, the investigation concluded that there was no cause for concern...."

This reminds me of a woman in a very bad area of L.A. commenting after the death of a three year old girl in a car that had mistakenly driven car into that area.

She said something to the effect that, yes, the area has some problems, but the people in that area were good people.

Too bad the good people didn't stop the family from being attacked.

Murder of Stephanie Kuhen

"George Ramos of the Los Angeles Times reported that many Cypress Park residents were angered by the negative portrayal of their community in the media...."

The point? The bad people in an area of "good" people is what makes that area dangerous.

It's simply stupid to go into a dangerous area thinking that nothing will happen to you.

I'm sorry for the good people of Egypt, but there is absolutely no way that I would go there.

Your title seems inaccurate ....

According to the bbc link you provided -
A UK government investigation found the incident was linked to routine military activity and was not a targeted attack.

So not 'launched at it'

Not sure why you seem to have translated this into a targetted attack. Very different.

Because the story has been updated since I read it (the one I'm reading now was updated 33 mins ago). Thanks for pointing it out though.

I've edited the title to reflect the new news.

It wasn't launched at ... so your title is just wrong.

Pilots take evasive actions all the time due to military and other ariel activities. This wasn't a missile launched at the aircraft. Titles and misunderstandings like this only serve negative and inaccurate news.

I'll elaborate my answer Pete:

The story was reported on several newsites, many said the same thing. In short, the plane was shot at. Since my reading of it most of the websites have corrected the story. The story at the end of my link has been updated, it has been corrected because the BBC have had clearer information. So yes my original post no longer reflects the reported story. Delete it if it offends you.

I'm guessing you've either had a bad day or you went to the wrong school of diplomacy..........I appreciate that you want to keep this site as factual as possible but please try and be slightly friendlier/diplomatic less rude about it.

as I said delete this thread if it doesn't suit you. It's your website so do as you please.

Sorry if I sounded blunt GK. No offence intended. So easy to miss the attitude in text. Just matter of fact questioning and comments. Like I say, sorry if I sounded rude - not meant in any way. :)

I find my use of the wonderful array of "smilies", added to various parts of my text, sometimes helps to illustrate my "feelings" at the time of posting, to hopefully avoid any confusion in exactly what I am; "saying"!

Similar to facial expressions when actually talking to someone, face-to-face.... :o ....!

I always hope it works, in my case!.... ...!

Paul.... :D ...!
