An Airbus A321, operating Kogalymavia Flight 9268 has crashed on Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, killing all 224 people onboard. This is the deadliest airplane crash of the year, topping the fatality toll of Germanwings Flight 9525 by 74. The disaster comes exactly 16 years after the loss of EgyptAir Flight 990, which killed 217.

Old news now but what a tragedy for all involved.
As always with air crashes, it will be good to know the cause. Most likely technical or human error. Let's not hope bomb on board or similar. If that was the case let's hope the cctv at the airport covered all areas at all times and can determine why it wasn't detected - or worse - if some staff are culpable. At this point there is little point in speculating.

You would not believe how many people actually think the Israelis bombed it. The aircraft had had a tailstrike back in 2002, so my guess is that it was improperly repaired and suffered an explosive decompression caused by a rear pressure bulkhead failure, followed by an inflight breakup. This happened to China Airlines Flight 611.
