The news is saying he ejected but out of the seat envelope....

Fairly unpleasant weather around East Anglia and Cambridgeshire on Wednesday. You wonder if that was a factor.

There was an F/A-18 Rhino in my area a few years ago that crashed after running out of fuel. It plowed through a few houses in a residential area and killed 3 people on the ground. If the aircraft had had two seconds more fuel, it would have gone into the canyon behind the house instead of through it. The pilot ejected safely, but he and the Navy were both the target of massive lawsuits from the family and the city. The investigation faulted the pilot for trying to land at MCAS Miramar instead of diverting to NAS North Island.

USMC pilot and he was just photographed by an aviation photographer I know on the west coast as they were finishing up preparations for deployment.

Aviation is an unfortunate industry where everyone in it has a list of contacts with no one on the other end...

Funny thing is, most aviators we lose that were lost flying, probably could not be happier to go out flying! Some folks are just born too be in the sky.
