Wrong Carrier

Postby Azframer » Sat Sep 19, 2015 3:01 pm

I had never heard about this before and ran across the picture and comment and had to share.
Comment on the picture was:
Every time a plane landed on the wrong carrier, it was tradition to graffiti it before sending it back.

Yep, it still happens. Back in 1980 while I was onboard the USS Eisenhower one of our intrepid F-14 jocks landed on the USS Independence during our "war games" exercise that carrier groups always do when one comes on station to relieve the other battle group. Just amazing! How could he mistake a "fossile Burner" with a smoke stack for a nuke carrier?

By the way, guess who gets to clean off the graffiti? The pilot and his backseater.

An Aircraft Mechanic only needs two tools, Duct Tape and WD40.
If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to - use the WD40.
