This is the modern NASA budget/resume chasing PR machine at its best. Back in the bad ol days of Edwards AFB, NASA with DARPA and the USAF flight testing a much more advanced adaptive airfoil system in the form of a modified F-111. This is just a flap, the old one from several DECADES ago was the whole flipping wing!

OK, so I'm a broke dique retired aircraft mechanic whose elevator doesn't always hit the top floor so tell me how is this flex wing going to reduce noise
on take offs and landings by up to 40%. Is it going to slap the engine upside the nacelle and tell it to shut up or what? I don't recall ever having a pilot
write up a flap for being noisy. Maybe a flap jack screw would whine once in a while but... I think it's more PR B.S.

An Aircraft Mechanic only needs two tools, Duct Tape and WD40.
If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to - use the WD40.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.
