It is my firm opinion that this country would breath a great sigh of relief if the next President of the United States (POTUS) would fly around in this aircraft.

I get seriously embarrassed for my American chums every time I read about something like this.

Gross over-indulgence at its worst!...Ridiculous!

"A new 747-8 lists for around $368 million. Add all the presidential bells and whistles and the sticker price goes north rather quickly."

...not a lot of money left for Medicare, etc.... ...!

".....its passengers sustained by galleys capable of storing up to 2,000 meals at a time."

Expect to see a very fat President!... ...!

An alternative Cessna 172 looks like a very good idea to me!... ...!

Paul.... ...!

I agree with Fozzer, et al, about the extraordinary expense of the POTUS airplane and that such money could be put to very good use elsewhere. But, I have to point out that the Brits still support the [entirely ceremonial] Monarchy, with its fleet of aircraft, royal yacht, etc. It seems to be a characteristic of national pride to want to provide a high standard of living for leaders.

I could easily be wrong, but I believe that the "royal family" has it's own income sources. How much I haven't a clue.

On the other hand, after a 4 - 8 year stint, our presidents, get their full benefits (and any pay increases) plus free medical, good enough to make the "rich" envious. FOR THE REST OF THIER LIVES.

Yes. Basically, they get treated like "president for life". Kinda like the royal family, but paid better.

I can't say what it's like in the rest of the world, but here, money does corrupt. And the politicians, of any party, will see to it that they are VERY well taken care of.

It's been a very long time, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that having a "royal family" is actually an income producer for the UK.

Sure. You could take all their wealth and distribute it to the poor. But what do you have then? More poor people.

IT WILL NEVER STOP.

At least the "royal family" is revenue positive, and gives squalid old England a bit of colour with it's pageantry.

I might travel to England to see the Buckingham Palace, but never to see the Buckingham Hotel.

Oh I do.

Back in the '80s or '90s she was on a pheasant hunt.

Some twit who wanted to be seen with the Quean went along.

Not that she wanted to be on a "hunt". Just wanting to be seen in the right circles.

Queenie shoots a pheasant and the bird is brought back.

Twit go's "OH NO! The bird is still alive!!!"

Queenie looks at her (probably for the last time socially) and twists the birds neck, killing it.

Now, I don't hunt, but that seems like the best response she could have given the social climbing twit.
