Look Ma...No engine!

A much cheaper, and interesting alternative to an engine-driven Gyrocopter/Gyroplane...>>>

MMmmnnn I do like it but at my age all that running, I think I would have a coronary before getting airborn. Like to find out more about it though. Seem to remember a while back seeing, I think, a Russian with a home built helicopter.

Yep here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHgxd39Uqx8

I dread to think of the regualtions involved in trying that here.

Cheers Rich

Gyrocopters are real fun to fly, completely different from Helicopters!
I have a number of them in my Flight Sim Hangar, and they are wonderful for warm sunny Sunday afternoon Flights around the local countryside, only requiring a few feet of travel for take-off and landing!
On the original versions the rotor was spun up by hand before take-off, but modern versions are "pre-rotated" with a connect/disconnect flexible drive from the engine gearbox.
During flight there is no mechanical connection between the engine and the Rotor. (There is no tail rotor). The engine merely drives the propeller for forward motion!
The Rotor is merely a freely "rotating wing" to obtain lift!
Download one, and give it a try....You may get to like it!.... :D ...!

That's not a new idea. Have a look at this --> http://youtu.be/gP6VnbeWXSY

Modern autogyros might be safer than they once were but I never liked the idea of anything with rotor blades whirling above my head. :shock:

The name Gyrocopter was actually patented by Dr Igor Bensen in 1952.

The delightful Bensen B8 Gyrocopter....>>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bensen_B-8
..a copy of which, (with additional modifications), sits in my Flight Sim Hangar...>>> http://www.fs2000.org/2007/10/08/fs2002 ... yrocopter/
Built for FS 2002 and FS 2004, but also works in FSX.
