Here in the UK we've got a number of very interesting "flying" shows running on TV:

"Most dangerous places to land" - a show about the hazards of flying with Susi Air in Indonesia. Hairy stuff.
"Dangerous Flights" - a show about "ferry" pilots who's business it is to deliver aircraft of all sorts, to new customers, all around the world.

Flying an Embraer Phenom, and whilst descending down to below the 10,000ft level for landing in Singapore, the chief pilot explained that they also needed to maintain a speed of no more than 250 Knots at this level.
Whilst I knew this, he also explained that because below 10,000ft you start encountering birds, this requirement is to minimize damage due to possible bird strike..

Never knew this..

Bird Strikes.

The Bar Headed Goose can be encountered at an altitude of 29,000 feet ASL.

I occasionally encounter bird strikes at an altitude of approximately 0 feet AGL when travelling at various speeds on my Bike.

There are birds everywhere!.... :o ....!

Ha Ha...........bet the bird wouldn't fare any better at 250kt than 500kt and at 250kt the bird might as well be a brick when it hits the AC.
Love the show "Dangerous Flights". They always seem to get into a hot mess no matter where they go.
Thanks for sharing the below 250 info. learn something new everyday.

The bird thing is a bit of a myth methinks. ^-^ Nice idea though. It's more an ATC regulation - hence why you ask their permission if you wish to exceed it (250kts) in controlled airspace (below 10,000').
