Bad news.

Looks like the dreaded nose-wheel collapse on landing. (Providing he had time to fully lower all three wheels).
Torn the Engine, etc, from its firewall mountings!

One of those worrying failures which we don't experience in the Flight Sims!

I watch wayyyyy too many cartoons, I think.
All I could picture in my mind as I read the original post from JR was the plane bouncing down the runway, all different attitudes and parts of the aircraft impacting the ground, and the sountrack voice going "Ouch!, oooof!, OWWWW!, eeeech!" and so on with every bounce....

Sad to see. The C-177RG was one of my favorite airplanes in the RW. I don't know what the weather conditions were but high-wing airplanes are always tough in a crosswind.

Looks to me that the whole undercarriage collapsed. This points to a very heavy forced landing.

If the WX was windy or even gusty, it's very easy to have the relative wind shift a little during the landing phase, when the bird is at the edge of it's flight envelope anyway, and cause a sudden additional sinkrate to make it a tad hard on the gear.

I don't have that problem with my Cardinal, it has fixed U/C.

I reckon the mechanics would describe that engine as being; "shock-loaded", and may need a bit of work done on it... ...!

It most certainly is rather bent!... ...!

For the record, it isn't a 177RG thankfully. It is a C210.
