Always scary when flying in areas busy with Glider and Sky Diving activities!

Its a bit of a shame that FSX doesn't reproduce such activities in normal flying, and as part of aircraft flight training.

I read this in the news yesterday and was going to post it, but got diverted to other things. Probably a good thing that Mr Skydivers jump suit has elasticated bits at his ankles..................to prevent everyone from seeing that he soiled himself.....

Both were very lucky to limp away from that one.....

Also, note in the background, the USA fascination for overhead power and telephone lines, just asking to get tangled up with General Aviation Aircraft.

I even find it a bit scary in the Flight Sims, avoiding the myriad of High Voltage Electric Pylons, Wind Farm towers, and tall Radio Masts in Southern California!

Much of UK power and telephone distribution cable is buried underground out of wing and propeller's way... ...!

Aboveground is a lot easier to repair/replace as the need arises. Not as safe gor GA and ballonist or parachters, but when the system was being set up GA was in it's infancy at best and parachuting was done by crazy, wild-eyed military guys only!
Things change, different cultures, different ways of doing...

Don't be silly now. This isn't about overhead wires and such, it's about a very real hazard to air safety. Surely whilst parachuting activities are in action, air traffic should seal off airspace to anything else? Unless of course some unfortunate pilot sees the need to vacate his airplane whilst overhead.

It's pretty clear that the overhead wires failed to stop the parachuter in time to save the aircraft.

I guess each one is blaming the other. The parachutist claims that ATC called for the pilot to hold. The pilot claimed the chutist landed at the wrong airfield.

What's more scary is this : I downloaded a Malaysian air 777 pack and entered a FP from KL to Beijing. Everything was fine until I got to passing FL230 in the climb at M.45 way over the South China Sea. All of a sudden something went drastically wrong with the auto pilot. The engines spooled down, I lost airspeed rapidly, the low airspeed light came on and I was almost stalling. I still don't know what happened. But I switched off the AP. Kept the AT going, reducing Air speed to 250Kt. Manually descended to FL 100 @3000FPM and turned back for Singapore. Had difficulties with the autopilot all the way and used the GPS for an ILS landing 02L. I still haven't a clue what happened to the AP. SCARY when you think about it.

Yes, BUT you had plenty of time to send out a mayday, set the transponder to 7700, etc. The flight in the news did none of those things.

Leaves a lot of holes and questions.

Unfortunately, this post is getting confused between an unfortunate, low level collision between a Pilot's aircraft performing touch-and-goes and a parachutist just about to land,
.......and the recent loss of the Jumbo 777 over then South China Seas!.... ...!

My extra mention of overhead wires was just an addendum to the various hazards affecting pilots, etc.

From what I've seen of this incident the parachutist landed on an active runway. That seems rather stupid to me. They were both very lucky.
