A fascinating read!...

What brought the post to my immediate attention, was that we have/had a Member here who's Forum name was/is; "Tacit Blue"!

Lots of strange stuff in Area 51*

Paul...touring Nevada... :D ...!

*.....actually...if you carefully scan Google Satellite Street Maps at very low level, there are lots of strange, hidden stuff, in the various deserts dotted around!
I spend hours getting shot at!

I seem to remember a report in the press a while back that some researchers were trying to find the remains on this aircraft. Apparently, when they finished with it, a big whole was dug and the aircraft was dumped into it. Some reports say whole, some say it was burnt..................?

Am I missing something here? Tacit Blue's been known about for nearly two decade, has been in the USAF Museum since the mid 90s, and wasn't a "spy-plane"... <<s

No, it was a stealth demonstrator, that at the time John Cashen one of the designers said it was"arguably the most unstable aircraft man had ever flown."
As for the being buried, I did read about an aircraft that suffered this fate, must be another one of the long list to fly out of Groom Lake.....?

Expat, I believe you are referring to Have Blue which was the precursor to the F-117. Tacit Blue, while being a demonstrator, was but wasn't exactly part of the stealth program. It was somewhat of a one off. Tacit Blue is now on display at the Wright-Patterson AFB air museum while the Have Blue program had two aircraft built. Both crashed. The first completely destroyed, the second was severely damaged and buried in the Nevada desert. Just a quick notation. No disrespect intended. Kind regards, Jeremy

None taken, I knew there was a "blue" in there somewhere. That is the one I meant....

We know, Jet, but we all love ya anyway....in a manly, brother kinda way, of course!

When they were testing the F-117, they called us up at the Aerostat Site in Yuma once in a while and told us to shut the radar off, then they would call us and ask if we saw them on the scope. When we answered in the negative, of course....not a lot of scope data up without the system on, they said, and this is a direct quote from one of the Lockheed techs interfacing with us, "See how well our stealth system works??" and then hung up. Yeah, hard to see on a Radar system with the radar OFF, now isn't it??
Or, as a RIO once griped an F-4 radar: Radar system non-functional in On-Full-Force position of the main Switch. Nooooo KIDDING??? REALLY??? Good thing he has a college education!

College education to break em, High School to fix em, as we used to say!
