Avionics on the B-47

I received a Pilots Handbook on the B-47 for Christmas and it's great.

I notice that the "as-issued" B-47's had no Tacan, no ILS, no DME, no VOR or marker beacons and no indicators for these navigation devices. It did have a single channel ADF, and a Navigator (the human kind).

Is there someone out there who knows if any of these electronic aids to navigation were retro-fitted to the B-47 fleet at some later date, and if so which devices were added ?

Thanks, and a belated Merry Christmas,

Hi,

Effectively NAV instruments were very rudimentary.
On the documents I found on the net in order to create a panel for the B47, I only found a VOR and ADF, no DME.
In my opinion there were no further versions of the panel because this aircraft was replaced later on by the B52 and her working life was short.
On the panel I built, I have added necessary NAV gauges + autopilot. I know it's not 100% real but it's more convenient!

Hey PhilFly that's great. I am trying to use a B-47 that I converted from an " I "model. I'm using a panel frpom an old - and I mean really old - B-47 that is from some old Alpha freeware. It works more or less after I ran it thru "AirWrench' but I could use a better panel if available.

If you cared to share your panel with me I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
